Health & Lifestyle News – Microwave Cooking Is Bad

Great Basin Chiropractic: A Creating Wellness Center

Health Tip For The Week

MICROWAVE COOKING
is Killing
People!

By Stephanie Relfe B.Sc. (Sydney)

Microwave cooking is one of the most important causes of ill health. It is certainly one of the most ignored.

There was a lawsuit in 1991 in Oklahoma. A woman named Norma Levitt had hip surgery, but was killed by a simple blood transfusion when a nurse “warmed the blood for the transfusion in a microwave oven!”

Logic suggests that if heating is all there is to microwave cooking, then it doesn’t matter how something is heated. Blood for transfusions is routinely warmed, but not in microwave ovens. Does it not therefore follow that microwaving cooking does something quite different?

A little evidence of the harm caused by microwaving cooking was given by the University of Minnesota in a radio announcement:

    “Microwaves … are not recommended for heating a baby’s bottle. The bottle may seem cool to the touch, but the liquid inside may become extremely hot and could burn the baby’s mouth and throat… Heating the bottle in a microwave can cause slight changes in the milk. In infant formulas, there may be a loss of some vitamins. In expressed breast milk, some protective properties may be destroyed…. Warming a bottle by holding it under tap water or by setting it in a bowl of warm water, then testing it on your wrist before feeding, may take a few minutes longer, but it is much safer”.

The violent change that microwaving causes to the food molecules forms new life forms called radiolytic compounds. These are mutations that are unknown in the natural world. Ordinary cooking also causes the formation of some radiolytic compounds (which is no doubt one reason why it is better to eat plenty of raw food), but microwaving cooking causes a much greater number. This then causes deterioration in your blood and immune system.

Lymphocytes (white blood cells) also showed a more distinct short-term decrease following the intake of microwaved food than after the intake of all the other variants.

Another change was a decrease in the ratio of HDL (good cholesterol) and LDL (bad cholesterol) values.

Each of these indicators pointed to degeneration

.RUSSIANS BAN MICROWAVE OVENS

After the World War II, the Russians also experimented with microwave ovens. From 1957 up to recently, their research has been carried out mainly at the Institute of Radio Technology at Klinsk, Byelorussia. According to US researcher William Kopp, who gathered much of the results of Russian and German research – and was apparently prosecuted for doing so (J. Nat. Sci, 1998; 1:42-3) – the following effects were observed by Russian forensic teams:

1. Heating prepared meats in a microwave sufficiently for human consumption created:
* d-Nitrosodiethanolamine (a well-known cancer-causing agent)
* Destabilization of active protein biomolecular compounds
* Creation of a binding effect to radioactivity in the atmosphere
* Creation of cancer-causing agents within protein-hydrosylate compounds in milk and cereal grains;
2. Microwave emissions also caused alteration in the catabolic (breakdown) behavior of glucoside – and galactoside – elements within frozen fruits when thawed in this way;
3. Microwaves altered catabolic behavior of plant-alkaloids when raw, cooked or frozen vegetables were exposed for even very short periods;
4. Cancer-causing free radicals were formed within certain trace-mineral molecular formations in plant substances, especially in raw root vegetables;
5. Ingestion of micro-waved foods caused a higher percentage of cancerous cells in blood;
6. Due to chemical alterations within food substances, malfunctions occurred in the lymphatic system, causing degeneration of the immune system=s capacity to protect itself against cancerous growth;
7. The unstable catabolism of micro-waved foods altered their elemental food substances, leading to disorders in the digestive system;
8. Those ingesting micro-waved foods showed a statistically higher incidence of stomach and intestinal cancers, plus a general degeneration of peripheral cellular tissues with a gradual breakdown of digestive and excretory system function;
9. Microwave exposure caused significant decreases in the nutritional value of all foods studied, particularly:
* A decrease in the bioavailability of B-complex vitamins, vitamin C, vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotrophics
* Destruction of the nutritional value of nucleoproteins in meats
* Lowering of the metabolic activity of alkaloids, glucosides, galactosides and nitrilosides (all basic plant substances in fruits and vegetables)
* Marked acceleration of structural disintegration in all foods.

As a result microwave ovens were banned in Russia in 1976; the ban was lifted after Perestroika.

ALSO!!!!!  There is so much information out there about how bad microwave cooking is, that I could of posted page after page etc….  I encourage you to visit the link below for a detailed article with research support from one of the best health sites there is.

Foods to Avoid for a Healthy Heart

Trans-fats–Trans-fats are found in most margarine’s, snack foods, heavily processed foods and some cooking oils.  Read the labelof your food carefully.  Trans-fats are listed on food labels as “hydrogenated” or “partially hydrogenated” oil).  Trans-fats can reduce HDL (”good”) cholesterol levels and raise LDL (”bad”) cholesterol levels.

Animal protein–Excessive protein from an animal source (meat, eggs, cheese, etc.) has been shown to raise levels of homocysteine, a toxic amino acid.  You can eat meat, cheese and eggs but don’t make that the largest percent of your diet.  Add plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to satisfy your appetite.

Refined carbohydrates–A diet full of cookies, cakes, crackers, fluffy breads, chips and sodas can increase triglyceride levels and lower HDL.  Avoid all products with “high fructose corn syrup.”  High fructose corn syrup is added to most carbonated beverages.

Salt (sodium)–Excessive salt in the diet has been linked to high blood pressure and heart disease. Avoid processed and canned foods, taste foods before you salt them and do not add salt while cooking, avoid foods that are visibly salted and read the label (1,500 mg sodium per day is the suggested goal).  Many food products have a “no salt added” version on the same self.

FDA APPROVES REVOLUTIONARY LASER FOR WIDE-USE PAIN RELEIF

Salt lake City, UT, April 6, 2010 Great Basin Chiropractic P.C.:  A Creating Wellness Center announces the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) approval of the Erchonia3LT™ laser to use for pain relief in patients suffering from chronic and acute pain.  The laser, created by Scottsdale based Erchonia, has been proven through extensive testing to significantly reduce the level of pain symptomatic with a number of ailments.

The Erchonia 3LT™ is the first and only low-level laser approved for use in reducing pain.  By contrast to the high-power, high-heat lasers that are used in various surgical procedures, Erchonia lasers produce a low-level, or cold, output that has no thermal effect on the body’s tissue.  Instead, the laser serves to stimulate biological function positively.  Low-level laser therapy is commonly used to treat conditions such as acute and chronic pain in a number of medical areas without negative side effects.

Great Basin Chiropractic is pleased to offer the Erchonia 3LT™ as a therapy for pain relief and other conditions.  Using the Erchonia 3LT™ is a rewarding and successful experience for our physicians as our patients are living with dramatically less pain from this easy, non-invasive therapy. We are thrilled with the FDA’s recent approval of this laser and excited to expand its use.

Testimonial – Changing Lives

Mark,
Thanks so much for the help you’ve provided for June, my 8 year old.  Her mysterious symptoms of tingling in her feet and achiness in her legs had the pediatrician and the neurologist stumped.  Many inconclusive tests were run.  They told me she’d get used to it or grow out of it.  She was so distressed when these episodes came on, I was at my wit’s end trying to figure out how to comfort her.
It was such a relief to have your tests find that she needed adjustment.  After the treatments, her symptoms have disappeared.
Most importantly, I feel like she has a great relationship with you, trusts you and feels well cared for by you.  I value the way you’ve talked to and listened to her so respectfully.  I think it gives her, as a young person, a sense of how her medical care should be delivered.  You’ve set a high bar!

Health Tip -Wellness Care

Great Basin Chiropractic P.C.: A Creating Wellness Center

There is a growing body of evidence that wellness care provided by doctors of chiropractic may reduce health care costs, improve health behaviors, and enhance patient perceived quality of life. Until recently, however, little was known about how chiropractic adjustments affected the chemistry of biological processes on a cellular level.

In a landmark study published on March 7, 2005 in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR; http://www.jvsr.com), chiropractors collaborating with researchers at the University of Lund found that chiropractic care could influence basic physiological processes affecting oxidative stress and DNA repair. These findings offer a scientific explanation for the positive health benefits reported by patients receiving chiropractic care.

The researchers measured serum thiol levels in 21 patients under short-term chiropractic care and 25 patients under long-term chiropractic care. The results were compared to those of a non-chiropractic treated control group of 30 subjects. Long-term chiropractic care of two or more years was shown to re-establish a normal physiological state independent of age, sex, or nutritional supplements. Symptom-free or primary wellness subjects under chiropractic care demonstrated higher mean serum thiol levels than patients with active disease, and produced some values that were higher than normal wellness values.

Serum thiols are primary antioxidants, and serve as a measure of human health status. The test provides a surrogate estimate of DNA repair enzyme activity, which has been shown to correlate with lifespan and aging.

Dr. Christopher Kent, one of the authors explained, “Going through life, we experience physical, chemical, and emotional stress. These stresses affect the function of the nervous system. We hypothesized that these disturbances in nerve function could affect oxidative stress and DNA repair on a cellular level.”
Oxidative stress, metabolically generating free radicals, is now a broadly accepted theory of how we age and develop disease, Kent continued. Oxidative stress results in DNA damage, and inhibits DNA repair. DNA repair is the mechanism which fixes the damage caused by environmental impact.

Chiropractors apply spinal adjustments to correct disturbances of nerve function. Chiropractic care appears to improve the ability of the body to adapt to stress,continued Kent. Further research is needed to gain additional insights that will ultimately lead to improved clinical outcomes, he said.
